Start With Clarity, End With Confidence
Ever felt like preparing for a photoshoot is a bit like packing for a trip you haven’t booked yet?
You know you’re going somewhere, you want to feel amazing when you get there, but the suitcase seems full of questions.
🤷♀️ What do I wear?
🤷♀️ Where will we shoot?
🤷♀️ Do I need to know how to pose?
Let me reassure you, you don’t need to have it all figured out before we start.
I recently worked with a client who came to me equal parts excited and nervous. She had put off doing a brand shoot for years because the whole thing felt overwhelming.
But from our first chat, something clicked.
She showed up with open energy, eager to co-create a session that felt like her, and embraced every step of the journey. She asked thoughtful questions, collaborated on ideas, and by the time her gallery arrived in her inbox, she was already planning how to use the images in her business.
She now uses those photos constantly and tells me how much traction they’ve gotten. That kind of transformation doesn’t happen by chance - it starts with intention.
So today, I want to share how we go from "What should I even do for a brand session?" to a photography experience that feels not only aligned but empowering.
Why Planning Your Shoot Is More Important Than Knowing How to Pose
When most new clients reach out, they think they need a full set of poses memorised or a Pinterest board that reads like a magazine spread.
✨ But real magic doesn’t come from rigid expectations.
It comes from clarity, communication, and a willingness to show up as your full self.
In fact, one of the biggest ways we ensure your images feel like a true extension of your brand is by planning thoughtfully, ahead of the shoot. We don’t skip this part, I promise you. It isn’t extra fluff.
Planning is what allows you to relax during your session, enjoy the experience, and walk away with photos that truly reflect your personality and purpose.
When we plan well together, there’s room for creativity, a little improvisation, and those beautiful “that’s so me” photo moments. No last-minute outfit panic or awkward over-posing. Just intentional images that work.
How We Go From "Not Sure What I Need" to "These Photos Are So Me"
1. We Start With Clarity (Not Cameras)
Before I ever lift my lens, we meet (on Zoom or in person) for a pre-shoot planning session. This is where we talk about:
Your business or brand story
Your goals for the photos
How and where you intend to use the images (social media, website, speaking gigs, etc.)
What kinds of aesthetics or moods resonate with you
Any practical or personal considerations - neurodivergence, body image worries, time limits, locations, accessibility, etc.
This isn’t about creating a script, it’s about designing a supportive framework that honours your preferences and energy. Once we're aligned on direction, the shoot itself flows so much more smoothly.
2. We Build the Shoot Around You
I don’t do cookie-cutter sessions. Your session might take place in your home with your dog curled up nearby, at your favourite coffee shop, in your office or a local co-working facility, or even via our super convenient and fun remote photoshoot platform, if you’re based in another country. (if you've not yet experienced this, what are you waiting for??)
What matters is that the setting, mood, and style feel aligned with who you are and what your brand stands for.
And don’t worry - I’ll guide you with flexible scenarios and setups that help bring out natural movement and real expressions. Nothing forced. Just relaxed, gentle guidance to help you enjoy being seen.
3. You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose
You really don’t. Most people don’t wake up knowing how to stand, tilt, or smile on cue - and that’s ok.
In fact, the best sessions happen when people stop worrying about what they "should" be doing and start leaning into what feels good.
We’ll chat, laugh, and move through the space in a way that feels relaxed and unhurried. You can even bring the tunes... I won't judge. 😀 I'll prompt and guide as needed, always with patience, always with respect for your comfort level.
4. We Include Flexibility and Fun
I’ve had clients come up with spontaneous ideas mid-session that ended up becoming signature images for their brand. These moments happen not in the rigid plan but in the space that planning creates.
By agreeing on a clear foundation in advance, there’s room to play.
Whether it’s a sudden idea to shoot barefoot in your garden or throwing in your brand colours with a fun accessory, you’ll feel confident making creative choices because you’re already clear on what you’re creating.
This Isn’t Just About Pretty Pictures
I’m not here to just take a few nice headshots and send you on your way. My goal is always to help you tell your story with feel-good visuals that continue to work for you long after the session ends.
A well-planned brand shoot gives you:
Content you actually want to use
Confidence when showing up online
A cohesive brand identity that feels aligned
More than a gallery - an experience that energises and uplifts
And yes, beautiful photographs where you look like you at your best

Then the photoshoot, where she talks you through the process as she competently takes photos.
