Today is Yorkshire Pudding Day, which feels especially fitting as I live and work in Yorkshire.
I may be slightly biased, but it’s hard not to be inspired by this part of the world: rolling countryside, dramatic coastlines, historic towns, and places full of quiet character.
It’s also the landscape that inspired James Herriot, whose stories brought the veterinary world of Yorkshire to life so beautifully. His work captured not just animals, but people, place, purpose, and care. Values that still resonate strongly today.
There’s a branding lesson in that.
Strong brands, like a good Yorkshire pudding, don’t need to shout. They’re grounded, consistent, and rooted in something real... your values, your story, and often, your environment.
That’s one of the reasons I love remote photoshoots. They allow people to be photographed in their actual surroundings. Whether that’s a kitchen table, a clinic, a home office, a city space, or the countryside outside their door. Those real locations add authenticity, context, and connection to your visual story.
While I love working with businesses across many industries, I have many years of working experience in the veterinary world, which is why I chose to specialise in working with veterinary practices. I understand the people, the pressures, the culture, and the heart behind the profession, and that understanding shapes how I photograph and support veterinary teams.
Some of the most meaningful brand images I create don’t come from studios; they come from everyday places that already mean something to the people in them.
And because it is Yorkshire Pudding Day, here’s a simple recipe for anyone curious to try a little Yorkshire tradition:
Classic Yorkshire Pudding Recipe
Ingredients • 140g plain flour • 4 eggs • 200ml milk • Pinch of salt • Vegetable oil or beef dripping
Method
Preheat oven to 220°C (200°C fan). Add a little oil to a muffin tin and heat until very hot.
Whisk flour, salt, eggs, and milk until smooth.
Pour batter into the hot tin (it should sizzle).
Bake for 20–25 minutes until risen and golden (don’t open the oven early).
Best served with gravy… naturally.
Sometimes, the simplest things in branding, photography, or food really are the most effective.
How do you like your Yorkshire puddings? Are you a traditionalist with heaps of gravy, or are you more adventurous and like to have them with sweet toppings? I'd love to know.
